THE POWER OF AWE: A PHOTOGRAPHY & WRITING TRAVEL COURSE

Exploring the power of awe through word and image, 12 students are given the opportunity to expand their horizons and ask big questions on a 6-day spring break adventure where they will immerse themselves in the photographic story arts, while being guided by poetry, fiction and  intentional journal writing. This is more than a photography trip, it is a transformative educational experience designed to foster creativity, curiosity, resilience, and human connection.

The Power of Awe is a transformative educational journey that combines photography, writing, humanities, and outdoor exploration to help students deepen their creative practice while discovering the power of wonder, reflection, and human connection.

Set against the inspiring landscapes of Sedona, Flagstaff, Route 66, and the Grand Canyon, the program invites students to step away from the distractions of everyday life and immerse themselves in a six-day experience focused on observation, storytelling, and personal growth. Through guided photography assignments, reflective journaling, discussions, meditation, and encounters with some of America's most iconic natural and cultural landmarks, participants are encouraged to ask bigger questions about themselves, their communities, and the world around them.

At its core, the program explores the concept of awe; those moments of profound inspiration that expand our perspective, spark creativity, and remind us of our connection to something larger than ourselves. By blending visual storytelling with literature, philosophy, music, and experiential learning, students develop not only technical and artistic skills, but also greater confidence, curiosity, empathy, and resilience.
