The 2020 Youth Expedition was intended to be offered in tribute to the beautiful life and soul of Saoirse Hill Kennedy. Her love of laughter, of adventure in nature, and her belief that we must nurture our empathy for others and take action to help those around us in need, will be the guiding lights on our journeys ahead. When we fully emerge, our work will be inspired by Saoirse once again...

Open Roads Youth Expedition is a joyful summer adventure for high school students that combines outdoor travel with a dive into documentary storytelling through photography, film, and writing. We harness the spirit of creative activism to help students to ignite their motivation and hone their skills as inspired learners, engaged citizens, and positive contributors in their home communities and beyond.

As Open Roads students travel they are asked to respond to what they read, see, and experience by creating original documentary films and photographic essays as they live and work together over the 18-day expedition across the United State's magnificent Pacific Northwest.
